Week 2

 Monday 22nd January 2024

  • Today I decided I would work from home, so that way I can focus on doing video work for Tyndall.
  • What I plan to do today is to work on my creative video surrounding Tyndall, and any drafts I make I will share with Ré.
  • I recorded the footage that I plan to use for my video.
  • With the footage that I have recorded both last week and today, I worked on a first draft of the creative video:

  • It has rendered successfully, and I have sent it to Ré. If he likes what I made, then I will post it onto the video blog.
Tuesday 23rd January 2024
  • Right now, I am writing up different questions that I may ask the students whenever I get around to working on the student par
  • I have also signed up for Manual Training for the 28th of February.
  • The questions that I want to ask different students has been written and they are as follows:
    • What is your name?
    • What made you interested in studying at Tyndall?
    • What is your favorite aspect of Tyndall?
    • Were you excited to learn about your project before you did it?
    • What is your project about and what does it do?
    • Who is this project targeting?
    • How did you approach this project?
    • Were there any projects you saw that may have a similar function to yours?
    • On a scale of 1-10 (1 being easiest, 10 being hardest) how challenging do you think this project is?
    • Were there any struggles or setbacks while working on your project?
    • On a scale of 1-10 (1 being least enjoyable, 10 being most enjoyable), how enjoyable do you find this project?
    • Are there any changes you would have made to this project with the experience you have now?
    • What do you plan to do next for your project?
  • I don't know how many students I will ask but this will be the base amount of questions.
  • I had a meeting with Ré and he advised me to be more creative with my questions, so I will write more of those.
  • These are the list of notes for today:
    • Who would watch these videos and why?
    • Make something cool that people would want to look at.
    • More creative and funky questions.
    • Ask them all kinds of questions not just about their project.
    • If it's a show you would want to make, what would it be about? (For you, not the student)
    • Ask them all kinds of questions.
    • Podcast style.
    • They might answer and you will think of a question you didn't think about before.
    • Potentially rerecord my footage and add some more building shots.
    • Read over schedule and plan out the Who, What and When
  • We scheduled a meeting for 2:30pm on Thursday
Wednesday 24th January 2024
  • Right now I am working on a schedule for all of the projects I'm going to make for Tyndall, and I organized it in three categories. Who is it for, what is it about and when does it need to be done by. I put myself realistic deadlines.

Who?

What?

When?

Me

Creative Video about Tyndall

By the end of week 5 (16/02/2024)

Me and the student

Video blog which is an interview of different students in Tyndall

Plans for the future of the students’ projects

By the end of week 13 (12/04/2024)

  •  I have also been trying to write down some names for the video blog for the student talk. Here were some initial ideas:
    • Coffee Town
    • Coffee Roads
    • Lunchtime Chitchat
    • Teatime Talk for Two
    • The Midway Point
    • Jake & Co
  • I did end up deciding on a name called Student2 ("student squared") as I am a student at MTU and they are a student at Tyndall. As well as that, the name is alliterative so it rolls off the tongue.
  • I was told that Tyndall is not actually that well known internationally, so I was advised, when it comes to the creative video, to try to market the place for newcomers and for people in international markets, like in other parts of Europe or Canada.
  • Regarding asking questions to students, I decided to write down more questions for this situation.
    • If you had a television program, what would it be about?
    • What's your favorite type of music/show/movie/book/etc.?
    • If you were interested in starting a band, what kind of music would you make, and how many members would you have?
    • Where and what do you like to eat on your lunch break?
    • Any particular restaurants you like to eat at?
    • How do you get to Tyndall?
    • Do you like to play any sports?
    • Have you ever travelled the world, or thought of travelling the world?
    • What other hobbies do you have?
    • After you finish studying at Tyndall, where would you like to go?
    • Have you ever went anywhere on the train yourself before?
Thursday 25th January 2024
  • Today I went to visit a meeting related to marketing and communications (Marcom). In the meeting I discussed what I was going to do during my work placement, which is to make videos.
  • I was told in regards to my projects:
    • Think about the tasks required for the 3 projects
    • Give a summary of each project so far.
    • Make a project plan for each project – who/what/when?
  • Here is my task plan for the Creative Video:
    • Rerecord my footage [Whenever I’m working from home]
    • Record some more footage around the Tyndall building [during the week]
    • Compose some music for the video [By the end of week 4 or 5]
    • Try to put more information about Tyndall to entice international markets
    • Rewrite the script to add more information
  • I had a meeting with Ré, and here are the notes for today:
  1. Who What When for subtasks
  2. Who is the audience for your podcast
  3. What makes them stand out?
  4. How will you reach a particular number of views?
  • I decided to create a Who, What and When for the Creative Video Project subtasks that I wrote up:

Who?

Friday 26th January 2024
  • Right now I am answering a few questions that I posed myself yesterday.
Who is the audience for your podcast?
For my podcast, I want to focus the podcast on mainly younger people in the middle of leaving college and nearing seeking jobs, seeing as they would be the type of people that would want to have insight on a typical student’s life in an institute like Tyndall. It could be good for them to learn about how life is for a student, and it could also be interesting to see how the listener could relate to the student in not just the studies they make, but also the hobbies they have.

What makes them stand out?
One way that can help to make the podcast stand out is the attitude of the host. If the host (me) sounds excited to do the interview, then it would entice the listeners to continue listening. Another thing that would help to entice the listeners to continue listening is if the guest (the student) has any exciting stories and anecdotes to tell. Both the host and guest need to sound interesting to the viewer. Any music or sounds included in the podcast can also help, to avoid any dead noise.

How will you reach a particular number of views?
A good way for it to get a great amount of viewership and attention would be to spread it around with other people and on social media. With a good amount of word of mouth, it can entice more and more people to experience this for themselves. The guest will likely tell their friends that they were recently interviewed, and that would make them want to hear them out too.

  • With all of this that I have learned this week, I will be able to work on rewriting my script to make it more fitting.
